Do you believe strong communities start with connection, belonging, and compassionate support? Mission Australia Housing is seeking a passionate and community-minded Welcome Home Neighbourhood Coordinator to help deliver an exciting new housing initiative — Welcome Home.
The Friendly Neighbour Program brings local residents together to build safer, stronger, and more connected communities. The program encourages community connection, helps reduce anti-social behaviour and social isolation, and promotes collaboration with local organisations including police, Neighbourhood Watch, Crime Stoppers, and Mission Australia Housing.
Working within the Community Development team, this role will play a key role in building positive relationships with tenants, neighbours, community groups, and support services. This role will lead the Friendly Neighbour Initiative, create opportunities for community connection, and support tenant-led engagement activities that strengthen local neighbourhoods. This role will also work closely with Housing Services, Community Services, Chaplaincy, and external stakeholders to create welcoming communities where people can thrive.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- Build strong, respectful relationships with tenants and community members
- Support new tenants to settle successfully into their homes and neighbourhoods
- Coordinate community engagement activities, events, and connection opportunities
- Encourage tenant participation in housing and community programs
- Develop partnerships with local organisations and support services
- Facilitate tenant-led initiatives and neighbourhood activation projects
- Monitor program outcomes, gather feedback, and contribute to reporting and continuous improvement
Requirements for success
- Cert IV in Social Housing or Community Services desirable
- Lived experience background desirable
- Experience engaging with diverse communities
- A trauma-informed and strengths-based approach
- Excellent relation building and communication skills
- A strong focus on customer service and the ability to treat tenants with respect and compassion
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Valid Driving License and WWVP
Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, referee checks and WWVP.
