We work collaboratively to respond to climate change in our organisations and encourage our communities – residents and businesses – to make the transition to a zero-carbon society and become climate-resilient.

The position is based at the City of Brimbank, which is WAGA's host council. Brimbank is the second largest municipality in metropolitan Melbourne.

Only 10 kilometres west of Melbourne, it's the gateway to Melbourne's western suburbs and the regions. Brimbank is welcoming, diverse and proud. WAGA is embedded in Brimbank's Climate Emergency and Environment Department.

We are currently seeking a Permanent part-time (0.8 FTE) staff member to join the WAGA team based at Brimbank's offices in Sunshine.

  • Management of projects with diverse stakeholders
  • Development and implementation of strategies, plans, projects and advocacy to support sustainable outcomes
  • Written and oral communications about sustainability projects to internal audiences (directors, managers and officers, councillors) and external stakeholders (other councils, state and federal government, business, academic institutions and community organisations)
  • Management of committees and working groups
  • Budget and financial management
  • Monitoring, evaluation and reporting on projects and activities to an executive committee.

Qualifications or requirements

Experience needed

  • Experience working in sustainability or environment
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of climate change, energy and sustainability
  • A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering or relevant diploma with extensive relevant experience
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and collaborative skills

  • Competency and experience in managing complex projects, budgets and financial reporting
  • A high level of self-motivation, initiative, problem-solving and management of schedules and deadlines
  • Ability to implement actions without delay
  • Local government experience – desirable but not essential.
