HBT Australia is seeking motivated and technically skilled Underground Electrical and Mechanical Field Service Engineers to join our team in New South Wales. This is an exciting opportunity to join a local organisation operating globally.

HBT GmbH, headquarters in Luenen, NRW, Germany, is a world-class machine manufacturer and fully integrated single solution provider – specializing in systems and equipment for underground coal mining. The company exports its high-performance longwall mining equipment to all major mining markets worldwide, strategically located in 15 countries including Australia.

The core HBT facilities have the capability for research, development, design, manufacture and testing of longwall mining equipment in-house. All HBT products and systems are produced to the highest standards and compliant with international regulatory requirements.

In addition to machine manufacturing, HBT also manufactures high-quality OE parts and provides world-class support services for their equipment to ensure their customers succeed.

The Field Service Engineer will be responsible for providing on-site support to customers while ensuring optimal performance and maintenance of the HBT product line. Additionally providing detailed performance data and reporting back to HBT to assist in continuous product improvement and reliability initiatives and projects.

Your primary responsibilities will include assessing, maintaining and supporting HBT equipment on customer sites, particularly in underground mining environments. You will leverage your technical expertise to audit, repair/replace components and provide guidance on HBT equipment. You will also directly monitor the equipment in production and provide technical equipment and productivity improvement recommendations to customers that will enhance the performance and reliability of the HBT equipment.

Responsibilities or duties

The Field Service Engineer’s key Responsibilities include:

  • Performing service tasks, identifying/resolving technical problems and making analysis through onsite activity in any service categories (installation and commissioning, maintenance, repairs, upgrades and retrofits)
  • Proactively identifying potential equipment failures and requesting proactive corrective actions. Troubleshooting equipment failure and making recommendations to avoid repeating the problem in the future.
  • Participate in and or lead RCA ( root cause analysis ) processes as required.
  • Coordinating, preparing, and ensuring that all materials, parts, documentation, and equipment are available and at the appropriate quality for Service activities.
  • Perform equipment health inspections, validation and parameter audits
  • Analyse equipment performance using historical and electronic data to identify optimization opportunities.
  • Conduct required scheduled lifecycle Auditing, and prepare comprehensive life cycle condition reports for the customers. to assist in overhaul scope preparation and replacement equipment forecasting
  • Provide expert advice and support during breakdowns to minimise production losses.
  • Develop, prepare, and deliver high-standard training to longwall personnel on HBT equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Creating and maintaining a good relationship with customers and understanding their needs
  • Identifying new sales opportunities and communicating them internally.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Certificate III trade qualification in electrical/mechanical disciplines

Certificate IV and above qualifications are highly regarded

Trainer and assessor qualifications are highly regarded

Coal Board Medical certification

Experience needed

Previous experience providing technical support for high-performance machinery.

Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of HBT equipment

Underground experience in the longwall mining environment

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel and Word
  • Full Drivers License (NSW or QLD)
