The Education and Learning portfolio deliver’s a range of accredited, non-accredited and case management services. We are looking for qualified Trainer/Assessors with a Hospitality background who will be providing effective training and assessment services to the clients of SYC.

As a Trainer/Assessor – in the hospitality sector, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of aspiring professionals in the industry. This position will be based at SYC’s Kent Town site with frequent travel to our Elizabeth Training Hub on a permanent full-time, basis.

Responsibilities or duties

You will work collaboratively with the Training Management Team to deliver best practice training and advise, support, and mentor students to achieve their learning goals. Day-to-day activities will include:

  • Delivering engaging training sessions and workshops to develop the skills and knowledge of our students in various aspects of hospitality.
  • Assessing and evaluating student performance through practical demonstrations, written assignments, and examinations.
  • Ensuring all training delivered meets the requirements of the Training Package, industry requirements and VET Quality Framework.
  • Developing and implementing Training and Assessment strategies to maximise client and learning outcomes.
  • Completing and maintaining all training assessment records efficiently and accurately.
  • Monitoring and evaluating student progress.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

About You

You are someone who has exceptional engagement skills, the ability to interact effectively with students to create enthusiasm, foster trust, cooperation, and support of others to achieve quality outcomes. The successful candidate will also demonstrate:

  • For this role, you will need to:
  • Hold a TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or its successor) or diploma or higher-level qualification in adult education.
  • Be willing to complete a Working with Children Check and National Police Check.
  • Be eligible to work in Australia.
  • Have possession of a current valid Driver’s License, willingness to drive, and your own registered vehicle with a 4–5-star ANCAP safety rating.

Experience needed

The successful candidate will also demonstrate:

  • Extensive experience working in the hospitality industry, including coffee making and food handling experience.
  • Time management and organisational skills, including the ability to plan, prioritise and achieve outcomes.
  • ‘Up front’ engaging presentation skills with the ability to adapt one’s approach and maintain effectiveness with a variety of people and situations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write timely and accurate communications, project notes and reports.

Any other provided details (e.g., benefits, work environment, team info, or additional notes)

  • Hold a Cert III or above in Commercial Cookery, Cert IV in Catering Operations, or Cert III or above in Patisserie, their successors, or a chef/cook trade certificate is desirable but not essential.
  • Holding a Responsible Service of Alcohol Accreditation is desirable but not essential.
