Who we are looking for:
We are looking for an experienced maritime professional for the role of Technical Superintendent based.
The Technical Superintendent is responsible for managing the Engineering and Maintenance Baselines of the assigned vessels using the appropriate tools such as Polaris, Jira, Docushare, Sharepoint and Nautical Systems Enterprise. in addition to managing the certification baselines of the vessel, the Technical Superintendent will support Teekay in undertaking business improvement activities, undertaking quality management & supporting operational tasks, supporting the development of operational documentation, and coordinating maintenance activities and shore-based services. This position directly supports the Vessel Manger and liaises with Teekay’s Engineering Manager, Principal Maintenance Manager and various internal and external stakeholders as various projects progress.
Major Responsibilities
- Treat Safety, Environmental and Health compliance as a top priority.
- Periodically check Planned Maintenance System (PMS) to ensure maintenance jobs and critical spares have been completed as required and bring to the attention of the Vessel and Vessel Manager where non-conformities are found.
- Support PMS team and support groups to align ship specific tasks in PMS and ensure accuracy and completement of the PMS System for each asset. Support the identification and management and execution of Corrective Maintenance on an as needed basis. Act as the PMS Super User for alignment of ship-specific tasks and work orders.
- Undertake Engineering change management activities for the assigned vessel
- Work closely with Vessel Manager and vessels to ensure maintenance and 3rd party service orders are arranged well in advance. Make use of the reports contained in collaboration portal in order to achieve assigned KPI’s.
- Monitor operating budget for allocated vessel / asset and bring to the attention of the Vessel Manager any areas of concern. Verify all maintenance costs/invoices and ensure the correct allocation of accounting codes for cost management.
- Monitor the delivery of Spares/Stores to Ships to minimize delivery costs where possible to support the maintenance schedule.
- Support effective asset lifecycle management in accordance with client contract and other compliance obligations.
- Check from the latest class listing and surveys status forms received from ship. Condition of class due dates are to be closely monitored for re-survey/repairs in consultation with the Vessel Manager.
- Maintain all vessel certificates in the collaboration portal and vessel files to ensure any certificates soon to expire are brought to the attention of the Vessel Manager.
- Act as the project lead on small to medium sized projects or multi-discipline tasks involving different departments and/or external groups.
- Performing and coordinating engineering work with minimal supervision. Able to recognize priorities and undertake tasks accordingly. Prepare technical reports, investigations and calculation in support of engineering changes.
- Display a working technical knowledge of ship operations and mechanical/maritime engineering systems. Provide technical input into operational process including management, process, design, contracts and procurement.
- Develop a working understanding of the Teekay Quality Management System and Operational processes/procedures. Ensure practices adopted reflect a commitment to the highest standard in HSEQ & QA.
- Undertake basic project management activities in support of commercial and contractual related tasks. Monitor project budgets, taking remedial action as and when required. Keep relevant stakeholders informed of budgetary status via regular financial reports.
- Support effective asset lifecycle management in accordance with client contract and other compliance obligations.
- Encourage and lead the innovation and procedure development and reporting of metrics and KPIs.
- Prepare briefing material and present briefings to provide management, customers and vendors recommendations/suggestions that address project and operational issues.
- Support Document Control requirements and maintain periodic reporting due from vessel. Complete vessel visits to complete condition assessments, maintenance investigation reports and general surveys.
Requirements (Knowledge, Skill and Abilities)
- A Tertiary Qualification in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Marine/Aerospace) or equivalent.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships between team members and clients
- An MSIC holder and Australian Government Negative Vetting Level 1 Defence Security Clearance (or ability to obtain).
- Self-motivated, with a high level of initiative, able to work independently
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Analytical, problem solving, time management, project management and decision-making skills
- Knowledge in the operation and maintenance of Planned Maintenance Systems (AMPS, NS5 etc)
- A Project Management Qualification or qualification in an associated field is desirable.
- Experience in managing or working within multi-disciplined project teams
- High-level negotiation and influencing skills
- Understanding of Engineering and design implications in ship design, construction, and operations within a commercial or defence environment is desirable.
