The Attorney-General's Department is responsible for providing legal services to the Northern Territory Government and for the administration of justice in the Territory. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is an independent statutory office responsible for prosecuting criminal offences in the Northern Territory.

Responsibilities or duties

Conduct complex criminal proceedings in Local Court and higher jurisdictions.

Provide legal advice on prosecution cases.

Prepare briefs of evidence and recommend charges.

Liaise with defence, victims, police, court staff.

Represent prosecution in appeals and related matters.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Admitted/eligible as barrister or solicitor in Australia.

Experience in criminal law and advocacy.

Knowledge of DPP Guidelines, NT Criminal Code, Uniform Evidence Law.

Strong organisational and judgement skills.

Ability to work independently.

Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

Ability to interact with diverse cultural backgrounds.

Willingness to travel; NT driver’s licence.

Current Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card).
