About the Role

The School Technical Officer will play a key role in supporting and maintaining the school's Information and Communication Technology (ICT) environment to ensure reliable, safe and effective access to technology for both staff and students. In alignment with the Department of Education School Technical Officer role description, responsibilities include providing advice and assistance on maximising the effectiveness of ICT operations, supporting the acquisition, installation, operation, maintenance, repair and replacement of hardware and software, and assisting staff and students with technical support and troubleshooting.

The role also involves maintaining accountable records and ICT asset inventories, supporting networking and connectivity, providing preventative maintenance and emergency repairs, assisting with staff training in ICT tools, and communicating with regional and central support teams on technical matters. The successful applicant will also contribute to the development and oversight of procedures and guidelines that ensure the correct, safe and effective use of computing equipment and digital technologies across the school.

Must-Have Skills and Experience

  • Experience maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing computers and associated ICT equipment
  • Strong practical knowledge of desktop and laptop systems, printers, peripherals and mobile devices such as iPads
  • Understanding of Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN) and basic server infrastructure
  • Ability to provide effective technical support and communicate solutions clearly to staff and students
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on minimising downtime
  • Experience maintaining ICT records, inventories and asset management systems
  • Ability to provide advice on software suitability and emerging technologies relevant to educational settings
  • Commitment to safe work practices and the safe operation of ICT equipment
  • Strong organisational and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Current Blue Card (Working with Children Check) or ability to obtain one
  • Capacity to attain Department of Education Orange Card School Administrator certification
  • Diploma qualification relevant to ICT support or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the Department of Education

Nice-to-Have Skills and Experience

  • Previous experience working in a school or education environment
  • Familiarity with the Department of Education Managed Operating Environment (MOE)
  • Experience supporting interactive learning technologies, multimedia systems and digital learning environments
  • Knowledge of network security practices and remote support tools
  • Experience with preventative maintenance systems and ICT asset lifecycle management
  • Ability to identify and implement innovative technology solutions that enhance teaching and learning
  • Interest in emerging educational technologies and digital transformation initiatives
  • Providing advice and assistance on maximising the effectiveness of ICT operations
