For over 165 years, CGU has been insuring ambition. Part of Insurance Australia Group (known as IAG), we’re a leading commercial, rural and personal lines insurer and a top-three provider of workers compensation insurance.

Step into a pivotal leadership role shaping how complex corporate liability risks are underwritten and managed. As a Principal Corporate Liability Underwriter, you will own some of our most significant relationships, applying deep judgement and commercial insight to decisions that genuinely matter. You will work at the sharp end of the market, influencing strategy while staying hands-on with high impact underwriting. This is a role for someone who enjoys thinking broadly, acting decisively, and leaving a lasting imprint on portfolio performance, capability and trust across brokers, customers and internal partners. This is a permanent full-time role based in multiple locations across Australia.

What You'll Do

  • Underwrite the most complex corporate liability risks, balancing commercial outcomes with disciplined risk selection and long term portfolio sustainability.
  • Lead strategic relationships with major customers and intermediaries, bringing credibility, confidence and thoughtful challenge to complex discussions.
  • Shape and deliver underwriting strategy within agreed appetite, translating direction into clear, practical decisions on the ground.
  • Partner closely with senior leaders and distribution teams to support growth, retention and portfolio performance across corporate liability.
  • Provide guidance and informal mentoring to underwriters, sharing expertise and lifting capability without formal line management.
  • Apply strong judgement across pricing, policy wordings and coverage decisions, ensuring quality, consistency and regulatory alignment.

What You'll Bring

  • Deep experience underwriting corporate or complex liability risks with strong technical confidence.
  • A respected market presence and the ability to build trusted broker and customer relationships.
  • Sound commercial judgement supported by disciplined risk thinking and portfolio awareness.
  • Confidence working with complex policy wordings and nuanced coverage decisions.
  • The ability to influence, mentor and challenge constructively at a senior level.
  • Curiosity, integrity and a calm approach when navigating ambiguity and complexity.

What We Offer

  • Boosted superannuation with 13% as standard.
  • 20 days annual leave + 5 days MyLeave (extra leave for what’s important to you).
  • Work from home and many more flexibility options with myFlex.
  • Up to 50% off personal insurance, including home and motor insurance.
  • Partner discounts on private health insurance, tech & appliances, and many more.
  • Industry-leading 20 weeks paid parental leave.
  • Access to LinkedIn Learning, the award-winning IAG Academy, study assistance and secondment opportunities.
  • *employment type eligibility criteria apply
