The Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) Program delivers training to Australian’s aged over 15 years seeking to build their language, literacy, numeracy, and digital literacy skills to improve their access and pathways for further study and work.
We are currently looking for a passionate Participant Support Officer to join our team on a part time basis (0.6 FTE) working three days a week at our Murray Bridge site.
SYC exists so everyone can succeed. A not-for-profit organisation, we invest back into the Australian community, helping tens of thousands of people every year with housing, education and employment. Founded in 1958 to support young people experiencing disadvantage, we have extended this expertise to people of all ages for more than three decades.
Responsibilities or duties
- Providing a range of effective support services to participants within the guidelines of the Skills for Education and Employment (SEE) program.
- Engaging and providing a consistent point of contact for participants
- Providing individualised vocational and job search support to participants
- Developing and maintaining positive networks and effective referral relationships with workforce Australia providers, local employers and the community, and sourcing work experience placement and employment opportunities.
- Supporting participants in their transition to work experience placement, further education, and employment according to their chosen pathways.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
As someone who enjoys working autonomously within a broader team environment, you are enthusiastic, empathetic, and dedicated to making a difference in people's lives. You will be outcome focused, successfully building and sustaining relationships to provide effective individualised support. The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Previous experience working effectively with people with disabilities and from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
- Previous experience of building trusting relationships and leading individuals towards identifying and achieving goals.
- Time management, organisational skills, and the ability to plan and prioritise in to achieve outcomes.
- Strong communication skills, including negotiation, mediation and problem-solving.
- Interpersonal conflict resolution and negotiation skills along with the ability to identify innovative and lateral solutions to problems.
Experience needed
- Previous experience working effectively with people with disabilities and from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
- Previous experience of building trusting relationships and leading individuals towards identifying and achieving goals.

For this role, you will need to:
- Be willing to complete a Working with Children Check and National Police Check
- Demonstrate or be willing to undertake Mental Health First Aid and Disability Awareness training.
- Have possession of a current valid Driver’s License, willingness to drive, and your own registered vehicle with a 4–5-star ANCAP safety rating.
- Be eligible to work in Australia.
