Description
The South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service based in Bunbury which provides a variety of health services to Aboriginal people in the South West, Great South, Upper wheatbelt and Peel Regions of Western Australia. SWAMS delivers a wide range of Services including: GP Clinics, Primary Health Care, Counselling, NDIS and community host various programs. SWAMS has a strong growth strategy through partnership opportunities and future community development.
The SWAMS is dedicated to enhancing employment opportunities and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This position is designated under Section 50 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA), and as such, only Aboriginal people are eligible to apply.
SWAMS is currently seeking casual Medical Receptionists to join their current pool. This role is a true casual position with an opportunity to work up to 5 days per week, but hours will vary, can change and cannot be guaranteed to be consistent each week. Ideally, you will be available to be rostered across the 5 days and be open to travelling to some of our outreach clinics to assist when needed. A vehicle is provided for these trips and will include Collie or Busselton locations.
As Receptionist at SWAMS you will be the first person our clients meet. You will have an opportunity build relationships with our regular clients and be able to assist them with getting the care they need. If you love meeting people then this could be the role for you. Experience in medical reception work is not essential in this role as training will be given. However, we are looking for people who are reliable, trustworthy and have desire to learn. Days can be varied but would include:
- Greet and assist patients as they arrive at the clinic
- Schedule and confirm patient appointments
- Answer phone calls and respond to patient queries
- Maintain patient records and ensure confidentiality
- Other administrative tasks as required
Essential Criteria
- Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent under section 50(d) Equal Opportunity Act.
- Ability to achieve high-level customer service to clients in high-pressure situations
- High level of verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal people.
- Demonstrated organisational and time management skills along with an ability to adapt to changing needs.
Desirable Criteria
- Certificate II or III in Business Administration
- Experience in Community or Aboriginal Health
- Knowledge and expertise in the use of Communicare or similar clinical database systems.
- Current “C” or “CA” class driver’s licence
