Marketing and Corporate Affairs (MCA) is responsible for delivering an integrated and consistent approach to the Group’s marketing, brand, external and internal affairs, communications and sustainability.

The Corporate Affairs team purpose is to earn trust by building advocacy. We do this through renewing our brand and reputation with our stakeholders, engaging internal and external stakeholders to inspire advocacy and deliver trusted insights to inform decisions. This will achieve our Corporate Affairs ambition to champion a purpose-led CBA.

The Retail Banking Services (RBS) Corporate Affairs Team supports the Group Executive RBS and their leadership team with communications counsel and strategic support to deliver engaging internal and external communications. This work helps the bank deliver on its strategy and build strong relationships with key stakeholders.

As a Manager, Corporate Affairs for RBS (RBS CA), you will contribute to the delivery of our RBS Corporate Affairs strategic priorities.

The majority of your role will focus on creating compelling narratives, campaigns and strategies supporting proactive, reactive and issues-based internal and external communications with the potential to impact CBA’s reputation.

You will be comfortable taking initiative and be able to work independently to identify what needs to be done in a dynamic environment.

You are keen to learn and develop as part of a leading Corporate Affairs team. You will have a strong writing skills and experience in developing engaging content, managing multiple stakeholders, priorities and competing deadlines.

Responsibilities or duties

Do work that matters:

  • Develop and execute effective internal and external communication strategies and campaigns to support RBS priorities and CBA’s purpose ‘Building a brighter future for all’.
  • Contribute to Corporate Affairs issues management and proactive communication opportunities, and coordinating responses and actions, in collaboration with Marketing and across Corporate Affairs.
  • Develop creative assets for channels including earned and owned media, social media and internal channels to support broader campaigns.
  • Build close working relationships with teams across Corporate Affairs and MCA to align communication on RBS and Group-wide campaigns to drive greater impact.
  • Have a keen sense for potential risk and reputational issues and effectively manage risk as it relates to your role.
  • Manage key internal communication channels and measure their effectiveness through a range of mechanisms.
  • Contribute to an inclusive, welcoming and respectful team culture.
  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct sets the standards of behaviour, actions and decisions we expect from our people.

Qualifications or requirements

We’re interested in people who have:

  • 5–8 years’ experience in Corporate Affairs, media relations or PR, either in-house or at an agency.
  • A strong risk mindset – proactively identifying, assessing and managing reputational risk, and confidently advising stakeholders on emerging issues.
  • Proven ability to balance issues management with proactive storytelling, contributing to both reactive and forward-looking communications programs.
  • A collaborative, team-first approach, with a passion for working within a Corporate Affairs function and partnering closely with internal stakeholders, including Marketing.
  • Results-oriented and strategically minded, with the ability to contribute to and execute both strategic communications programs and day-to-day tactical activity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated experience engaging with financial and consumer media.
  • Strong understanding of earned, owned and internal channels, and how they work together in an integrated communications strategy, with an interest in public affairs.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment, managing multiple priorities and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Experience in financial services (in-house or agency) is highly regarded.
