About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Grants & Community Accountant to take ownership of the financial management of our not-for-profit programs. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who can work autonomously, build structure, and deliver clear, accurate financial reporting across grant-funded activities.
You will play a key role in setting up and optimising Xero, developing budgets, and producing monthly reporting packs that provide transparency to both internal stakeholders and funding bodies.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys purpose-driven work, thrives in a self-managed environment, and has a strong understanding of grant compliance and not-for-profit accounting.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the setup, optimisation, and ongoing management of Xero, including chart of accounts tailored for grant tracking
- Develop and manage program and grant-level budgets, ensuring alignment with funding agreements
- Prepare monthly financial reports, including variance analysis, cash flow tracking, and insights for management
- Monitor and reconcile grant income and expenditure, ensuring compliance with funding conditions
- Manage grant acquittals and financial reporting to funding bodies
- Process payments, reimbursements, and allocations across multiple funding streams
- Maintain audit-ready financial records and supporting documentation
- Provide financial insights to support decision-making and program delivery
- Identify and implement process improvements and automation within Xero and reporting workflows
- Act as a key finance contact for program managers and external stakeholders
- Assist with tax compliance and reporting
About You
- Proven experience (+4 years) in not-for-profit or grant-funded environments
- Strong hands-on experience with Xero (essential) – including setup, reporting, and integrations
- Demonstrated ability to build budgets and deliver monthly reporting packs
- Experience managing multiple funding streams or cost centres
- High level of autonomy – able to own the finance function with minimal supervision
- Strong understanding of grant compliance, acquittals, and audit requirements
- Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with financial data
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to communicate financial insights clearly
- Accounting qualification (CPA/CA or working towards preferred but not essential)
Why Join Us
- Purpose-driven work supporting meaningful community outcome
- Opportunity to build and shape the finance function
- Flexible and autonomous working environment
- Direct impact on how funding is managed and reported
Please apply ONLY if you have prior experience in not-for-profit accounting and hands-on Xero implementation or management.
