The Role

First Aid in Schools (FAiS) Educators help St John deliver short first aid awareness sessions to primary school students at participating public and private schools. The FAiS Program is an innovative program designed to help Primary School aged children become skilled and confident in recognising the need for First Aid, while practising safety, accessing Emergency Services when necessary and applying basic first aid skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver a 60-minute First Aid education sessions to primary school students at participating public and private schools.
  • Provide age-appropriate information and responses to primary school students ranging from Prep to Grade 6.
  • Adhere to appropriate child safety and work practices (minors under 18 years of age).
  • Ensure educational aids are available/prepared in advance and packed-up at the conclusion of the sessions.

Major Challenges and Complexities

  • Introducing a new program to schools, therefore managing expectations, and embedding the delivery model.
  • Educating in a school environment and dealing appropriately with primary school aged children.

Qualifications and Licences

  • Hold a current Provide First Aid and CPR certificate (or ability to obtain one)
  • Hold a current Blue Card – Working with Children (or ability to obtain one)
  • Hold a current Criminal History Check (or ability to obtain one)
  • Open Class Code C driving licence

Experience & Skills

  • An ability to explain competently and confidently basic first aid principles (DRSABCD) to primary school students.
  • Functional English speaking and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical ability to stand for up to 3 hours in presentations and carry out some light manual handling of equipment.
  • Strong organisation, coordination, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team player who promotes a supportive and cohesive environment.
  • Strong commitment to maintaining a healthy, safe & inclusive workplace for all.
  • Working knowledge of Work Health & Safety legislation, relevant codes of practice and Equal Opportunity and Diversity principles and legislation.
  • Strong understanding of professional boundaries, confidentiality, and privacy policies.
