Responsibilities or duties
Working in a rotating 12-hour shift roster providing 24/7 coverage (including nights, public holidays and weekends) within one of our communication operations centres across the state and you will be trained across two key functions:
Call-taking
- Answer Triple Zero (000) emergency calls - you are the first point of contact
- Provide advice and support before the ambulance arrives
- Follow structured and scripted protocols to assist the caller in their emergency
- Gather and record critical details
Dispatching
- Coordinate ambulance crews across Queensland
- Operate a multi-screen computer system
- Communicate via radio to the paramedics
- Manage multiple incidents at one time
- Use real-time dispatch systems.
- Coordinate non-urgent patient transport
You’ll rotate between these functions (but typically will only perform one per shift), with full training provided for both.
Qualifications or requirements

- Strong communication and active listening skills.
- Ability to de-escalate high-stress calls with empathy, calmness, and leadership.
- Team mindset and collaborative working style.
- Customer service focus in fast-paced environments.
- Ability to learn and apply technical systems quickly.
- Receptiveness to feedback and ongoing self-improvement.
- Sound problem-solving and decision-making under pressure.
