The Team:

At its core, credit is trust extended over time. Every credit decision shapes customer outcomes, portfolio performance, and the long-term resilience of the bank. To support the modernisation of our function we are building a more integrated, insight-led practitioner model that goes beyond reporting by playing an active role in shaping outcomes.

The Role:

This is an opportunity for a Credit Risk professional to play an important role in delivering and embedding the evolution of the function.

As a Credit Risk Practitioner, you will combine analytical capability, sound judgement, governance discipline, and delivery focus to support decision quality across the credit lifecycle. You will work closely with Product, Pricing, Distribution, Technology, Operations, Collections and L1 and L2 Risk teams to help design, implement and optimise credit strategies that improve customer outcomes and strengthen portfolio performance.

You will be responsible for owning credit problems within your area of responsibility end-to-end - from defining problems and analysing performance through to implementing decisions, monitoring outcomes, and refining strategies over time. The role moves beyond reporting and analysis into accountability for practical, controlled and effective credit outcomes.

You will also have opportunities to contribute to broader team capability through collaboration, knowledge sharing and peer support, while continuing to deepen your own practitioner expertise and development.

This is a role for someone who enjoys solving problems, connecting insights to decisions, and translating strategy into operational outcomes across the credit lifecycle.

Key Role Responsibilities Include:

Credit Strategy Development & Optimisation:

Support the design, implementation and optimisation of credit strategies across originations, portfolio management and collections through analysis, rule design, segmentation and decision logic that balances growth, customer outcomes, risk appetite and operational effectiveness.

Portfolio Insight & Performance Monitoring:

Analyse portfolio performance to identify key drivers, emerging risks and opportunities across the credit lifecycle. Translate analysis into clear insights and recommendations that support effective credit decision-making and portfolio outcomes.

Governance, Controls & Change Delivery:

Embed strong governance, testing, validation and documentation practices across credit decisioning and change implementation activities. Support controlled delivery outcomes that are accurate, traceable and aligned to policy and regulatory expectations.

Data, Analytics & Continuous Improvement:

Use data, analytical tools and emerging technologies to improve decisioning, portfolio understanding, operational effectiveness and customer outcomes. Continuously identify opportunities to improve credit strategies, processes and ways of working.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Execution:

Work across Product, Technology, Operations, Distribution, Finance, Compliance and Risk teams to ensure credit decisions are practical, effectively implemented and operating as intended in production environments.

Experience and Capability Profile:

Experience in retail credit risk, banking, financial services or other analytically intensive and decision-oriented environments with transferable capability across strategy, risk, portfolio management, analytics or operational decisioning.

Strong analytical capability with tools such as SAS, SQL, Python, Excel, Tableau or similar, including experience working with modern cloud-based data and analytics platforms such as Google BigQuery, Snowflake or equivalent technologies.

Sound experience working with enterprise decisioning and workflow platforms such as Experian PowerCurve (Originations, Strategy Management, Customer Management or Collections), E1, FICO, Pega, Ab Initio, Provenir or similar platforms used to design, implement and optimise business rules, credit strategies and operational decisioning.

Experience interpreting data and translating analysis into clear insights and recommendations.

Understanding of credit strategy design, portfolio performance and financial risk drivers including provisions, losses, recoveries, return on equity and profit after cost of capital.

Experience working collaboratively across business and risk stakeholders to support delivery outcomes.

Strong problem solving, structured thinking and decision-making capability.

Ability to balance customer, risk, operational and commercial considerations when forming recommendations.

Experience supporting governance processes, controls, testing or change implementation activities.

Demonstrated willingness to learn, collaborate and contribute to broader team capability and continuous improvement.

Tertiary qualification in a quantitative, analytical, commercial, legal, technology or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience demonstrating strong analytical and problem-solving capability.

A growth mindset and genuine interest in building capability as part of a modern Credit Risk function.

Why this role is Distinct:

This role reflects a broader shift in how Credit Risk operates, toward a more connected, insight-driven and outcomes-focused practitioner model.

You will have the opportunity to influence portfolio outcomes by helping shape credit decisions, improving governance and controls, strengthening decision quality and contributing to the evolution of modern credit practices.

You will join a team that values curiosity, accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement where team members are encouraged to own outcomes, challenge constructively and grow capability over time.

We recognise that great candidates may not meet every role requirement listed above. If your experience aligns strongly with many of the areas outlined and you are excited by the opportunity to grow further as a Credit Risk practitioner, we encourage you to apply.

We support our people with the flexibility to balance where work is done with at least half their time each month connecting in office. We also have many other flexible working options available including changing start and finish times, part-time arrangements and job share to name a few. Talk to us about how these arrangements might work in the role you’re interested in.

If you're already part of the Commonwealth Bank Group (including Bankwest, x15ventures), you'll need to apply through Sidekick to submit a valid application. We’re keen to support you with the next step in your career.
