About The Role

The Construction Manager is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end delivery of industrial projects across Akura’s portfolio, with a strategic focus on supporting the company’s expansion. This role ensures effective resource planning, operational execution, and leadership across project teams driving strong performance in quality, safety, and financial outcomes.

Acting as a key cross-functional leader, the Construction Manager plays an integral role in strategic planning, fostering collaboration between departments, maintaining strong client relationships, and mentoring teams to achieve results aligned with Akura’s growth objectives and core values.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & People Development

  • Lead, manage, and mentor Project Managers and Site Managers across multiple projects.
  • Build and maintain high-performing teams while fostering a culture aligned with Akura’s values including promoting the ongoing development of team members through training
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with direct reports.
  • Identify resource gaps and collaborate with People & Culture on workforce planning and talent acquisition.

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement construction strategies aligned with Akura’s corporate goals, considering project type, volume, and geographic expansion.
  • Oversee the management of large scale projects and maintain engagement with significant customers.
  • Provide strategic guidance on the focus, planning, and execution of construction projects.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Head of Construction on tenders, new project opportunities and active projects.

Operations & Planning

  • Oversee resourcing across multiple projects, balancing current project requirements with the future project pipeline.
  • Plan construction methodologies and internal resource requirements across design, logistics, and rigging.
  • Ensure pre-construction teams and Project Managers deliver complete, accurate, and “buildable” designs.
  • Drive collaboration across departments to ensure efficient project planning and execution.
  • Provide strategic input into project planning and operational delivery.

Project Delivery

  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and to the highest standards of quality and compliance.
  • Conduct regular site visits and peer reviews of project programs.
  • Drive strong performance across safety, program, and quality standards.
  • Hold Project Managers and Site Managers accountable for delivering projects in line with project objectives and company standards.
  • Maintain regular engagement with key customers to ensure strong relationships, satisfaction, and repeat opportunities.

Financial Oversight

  • Deliver against revenue, gross profit (GP), and net profit (NP) targets.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Construction to define revenue and profitability targets.
  • Review and approve weekly forecasts, cashflows, budgets, and project reforecasts.
  • Ensure Project Managers are equipped with effective financial models and adequate Finance support to monitor project profitability.
  • Ensure compliance with Akura’s Limits of Authority and debtor management processes.

Safety Leadership

  • Promote a proactive, safety-first culture across all projects and teams.
  • Address safety risks promptly and ensure accountability across delivery teams.
  • Hold Project Managers and Site Managers accountable for maintaining safe sites in line with WHS requirements.
  • Monitor safety performance and ensure alignment with company safety KPIs.

About You

You are a highly experienced and detail-oriented Construction Manager with a strong background delivering large-scale, turnkey, industrial projects. Ideally, you have progressed through the construction industry from the ground up, bringing practical, hands-on knowledge that informs your leadership and decision-making.

You bring the ability to balance strategic oversight with operational delivery, ensuring projects meet deadlines while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety. You are a confident leader who can guide teams, make informed decisions under pressure, and foster collaboration to achieve consistent project and business success.

You will demonstrate:

  • Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or equivalent is preferred
  • Minimum 15 years in the construction industry with a proven track record of leading operations and projects in multi-disciplinary environments, including construction, design, build, and commissioning.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and hold senior team members accountable.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform under pressure and meet tight project schedules.
  • Ability to lead teams collaboratively to achieve organisational objectives.
  • Strong commercial acumen with a proactive, growth-oriented mindset that identifies and leverages opportunities to enhance business performance.
  • Proficiency in MS Suite including MS Project
  • Procore and Premier systems is preferrable
