6-Month Contract | Inspire communities. Bring technology to life. Make a real impact.

Are you someone who can take complex ideas and make them exciting, relatable, and easy to understand?

This is your chance to step into a high-impact role where science communication meets real-world community engagement. As our STEM Engagement Lead, you’ll bring nbn’s “Why Fibre” story to life through interactive school programs and community events, helping students, educators and business leaders understand how connectivity powers future careers, innovation, and digital inclusion.

Over a 6-month period, you’ll lead 21 immersive activations across regional Australia, delivering engaging, hands-on experiences that connect technology to everyday life.

Why This Role Is Different

This isn’t a typical brand ambassador role.

You’ll be:

  • Translating technical concepts into engaging, real-world stories
  • Inspiring students to explore STEM pathways and digital careers
  • Connecting communities to the impact of technology on education, business, and growth

You’ll be based from home, travelling for scheduled activations – giving you the perfect mix of flexibility and on-the-ground impact.

What You’ll Do

  • Deliver engaging STEM-focused presentations and experiences in schools and community settings
  • Bring the “Why Fibre” story to life in a way that’s simple, interactive, and meaningful
  • Inspire curiosity by linking connectivity to science, technology, and future careers
  • Deliver high-quality, consistent activations
  • Manage end-to-end delivery of events, from logistics and run sheets to pack-down
  • Build strong relationships with educators, students, and local business communities
  • Adapt your delivery style to suit different audiences, from classrooms to boardrooms
  • Capture insights and feedback to continuously improve the program
  • Travel across regional Australia to deliver 21 scheduled activations

About You

You’re a natural communicator who can make complex ideas feel simple, engaging, and exciting.

You’ll thrive if you have:

  • Experience in science communication, STEM outreach, education programs, or experiential activations
  • A background or strong interest in STEM, technology, or digital innovation (highly regarded)
  • Confidence presenting to diverse audiences, from students to business leaders
  • The ability to translate technical concepts into engaging, easy-to-understand content
  • Strong organisational skills, you can manage logistics and run events independently
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to adapt on the fly
  • Leadership experience or the ability to mentor and guide others
  • A genuine passion for community engagement and inspiring future talent

This role would suit Science Communications graduates

You’ll also be:

  • Comfortable being the face of a program (including media and content capture)
  • Open to regular travel, including interstate travel
  • Able to obtain Working With Children Checks across activation states

Why You’ll Love This Role

  • Make an Impact: Help shape how communities understand and engage with technology
  • Inspire the Next Generation: Introduce students to STEM pathways and future careers
  • Unique Experience: Combine science communication, events, and travel in one role
  • Career Growth: Build experience across STEM engagement, tech, and community programs
