Position Summary

This role is responsible for managing contractual, commercial, and financial matters for assigned contracts. The position ensures contract compliance, accurate reporting, and effective client relationship management, while providing leadership in negotiations, cost modelling, forecasting, budgeting, and variation management. In addition, the role supports organisational improvement through systems reform, centralised data management, and enhanced reporting processes, while contributing to tendering, subcontract reviews, and other commercial and financial requirements.

Responsibilities or duties

Treat Safety, Environmental and Health compliance as a top priority.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, leading negotiations where required.
  • Ensure contract compliance and effective contract management/ administration, prepare timely and accurate reporting.
  • Effectively manage and establish systems for contract budget management, cost controls, reporting and commercial practices across the contract organization.
  • Lead and oversee contract cost modelling, forecasting, budgeting, pricing, and preparation/approval of submissions and quotations.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Operations, and TKA management to meet and improve performance targets.
  • Collect, analyse, and report on operational and financial performance metrics and KPIs.
  • Provide leadership and advice to projects on all contract, commercial and financial management matters.
  • Lead and oversee contract cost modelling, forecasting, budgeting, pricing, and preparation/approval of submissions and quotations.
  • Manage contract administration, including variations and associated approvals.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Lead systems and data reform projects in collaboration with Finance, Commercial, and Contract Managers to improve reporting and efficiency.
  • Establish and maintain centralised pricing, costing, and sales datasets and processes.
  • Enhance project and contract cost management and reporting functions (including PMO support for EMPs and submissions/quotations projects).
  • Identify and implement cost reduction and efficiency opportunities.
  • Support tendering processes, including P&L and ROI modelling for projects and new opportunities.
  • Assist with contract and subcontract reviews and negotiations.
  • Support the management of insurance and other commercial, financial, and legal requirements as needed.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Essential

  • A tertiary qualification in Law, Commerce or Business Administration or relevant experience in a commercial/contract management/legal environment.
  • Strong written, verbal and numerical communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships between team members, stakeholders and clients.
  • 5-10 years in contract & commercial management roles with significant exposure to AUSDEFCON and Australian Government contracting.
  • Sound commercial, financial, business and strategic acumen.
  • Experience in pricing, estimating and procurement.
  • Ability to conduct financial analysis, forecasting and create business cases/ reports.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and negotiating head contracts or contract terms.
  • A current NV1 Australian Government Security Clearance or be eligible/willing to obtain this

Desirable

  • Commercial shipping, ship repair, maritime sustainment background.
  • Extensive experience in procurement and supplier contract management, including an ability to navigate through complex contract documents and interpret complex contractual and legislative requirements, with an understanding of commercial drivers and impacts.
  • AUSDEFCON or large commercial tendering experience.
  • Experienced ability to conduct financial analysis, forecasting and create business cases/ reports.
  • Experience in businesses with diverse client and contract requirements.
  • Experience in a leadership position.
