Your Opportunity

Make a real difference in the Walgett community by supporting individuals and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness. As a Case Worker within the Homelessness & Housing Support program, you will provide person-centred case management and practical support to help clients access safe housing, maintain tenancies, and build long-term stability.

Working within a close-knit regional community, you will support people facing challenges such as homelessness, domestic and family violence, overcrowded housing, and housing insecurity. The role involves outreach, crisis intervention, transitional accommodation support, and ongoing case coordination, working collaboratively with local services and community stakeholders.

This opportunity is ideal for someone who is compassionate, resilient, and committed to supporting vulnerable people through strengths-based and trauma-informed practice. Experience working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and an understanding of regional community dynamics will be highly regarded.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Provide case management, advocacy, referrals, and practical support to individuals and families experiencing homelessness, housing instability, or domestic and family violence.
  • Respond appropriately to referrals and client presentations, ensuring case notes and administrative tasks are completed within required timeframes.
  • Deliver outreach, crisis intervention, tenancy support, and transitional accommodation support to assist clients in achieving stable housing outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with local services, community organisations, government agencies, and stakeholders to support positive client outcomes.
  • Build respectful and culturally safe relationships with clients, families, and community members.
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of children, families, and vulnerable people remains central to all case planning and support services.

Requirements for success

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Community Services, Social Work, Psychology, or a related discipline, or demonstrated equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working within homelessness, housing support, domestic and family violence, or community services sectors.
  • Experience supporting individuals and families with complex needs, including homelessness, mental health, substance use, family violence, and housing instability.
  • Demonstrated case management, crisis intervention, advocacy, and client support skills.
  • Ability to engage respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and work effectively within regional and remote communities.
  • Current unrestricted Driver Licence.
  • Current First Aid & CPR Certificate desirable but not essential.

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
