About the Role
We are seeking an experienced AI Governance Lead to join a leading financial institution on a 6-month contract based in Melbourne. This role will be pivotal in shaping and embedding enterprise-wide AI governance practices, ensuring responsible, compliant, and ethical use of AI across the organisation.
You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders across risk, legal, compliance, technology, and data teams to build robust AI governance frameworks aligned with regulatory expectations and industry best practice.
Key Responsibilities
AI Governance Frameworks
- Design and implement enterprise-wide AI governance frameworks aligned to industry standards and regulatory requirements
- Define policies, standards, and controls for AI development, deployment, and monitoring
- Establish governance forums and decision-making processes for AI use cases
Risk & Compliance
- Assess AI models for risk, bias, fairness, explainability, and accountability
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, including:
- APRA prudential standards (CPS 220, CPS 230)
- ASIC regulatory guidance
- Privacy Act and emerging AI regulations
- Support model risk management and validation processes
Model Oversight
- Develop and implement processes for:
- Model inventory and classification
- Model validation and approval
- Ongoing monitoring (performance, drift, unintended outcomes)
- Partner with data science teams to embed responsible AI practices
Data & AI Alignment
- Collaborate with data governance teams to ensure:
- High-quality, compliant data inputs
- Strong lineage and traceability
- Bridge the gap between data governance and AI governance capabilities
Stakeholder Engagement
- Engage with senior stakeholders across risk, legal, compliance, IT, and investment teams
- Translate complex AI risks into actionable, business-relevant insights
- Provide guidance on AI use cases such as member experience, fraud detection, and investment analytics
Training & Culture
- Deliver training on responsible AI and governance best practices
- Support organisational uplift in AI literacy and risk awareness
About You
Proven experience in AI governance, model risk, or data governance within financial services
Strong understanding of Australian regulatory frameworks (APRA, ASIC, Privacy Act)
Experience designing governance frameworks or operating models for AI or data
Ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders across business and technology
Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify complex AI concepts
Background in risk, compliance, data science, or technology (highly regarded)
