Jetstar Airways Pty Ltd is seeking committed, team players to join our 2027 Engineering Apprentice Program, commencing in January. The program is proudly based at our Melbourne Engineering Precinct, the main maintenance hub of our network, with a limited number of roles also available at Sydney Airport. Apprentices gain hands‑on experience working on Jetstar and customer aircraft including A320/A321, B787 and A321 Freighters. You’ll receive structured training, mentoring from experienced engineers and exposure to a wide range of engineering tasks, setting you up for a long‑term career as a Jetstar Engineer. For 2027, we are recruiting across the Avionics, Mechanical and Structures trade streams.

Responsibilities or duties

Depending on your chosen trade, typically your role will include:

  • Avionics Apprentice - maintains, inspects and undertakes fault diagnostics of electrical, instrument and radio systems and accessories on the aircraft. These include power generation and distribution systems, ignition and engine monitoring systems, autopilot and integrated flight systems, environmental control systems, radar and communication systems and in-flight entertainment.
  • Mechanical Apprentice - maintains, inspects and undertakes fault diagnosis of airframe, engine systems and mechanical components and accessories on aircraft. These include undercarriage, wheels and brakes, pressurisation, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, flight control systems, engine control systems and pressurisation and environmental control systems.
  • Structures Apprentice – Maintains, inspects and undertakes modification & repair to Aircraft metallic structures and will typically work with Aircraft Composite structures such as: Fiberglass, Carbon fiber (Graphite), Kevlar, Bonded metallic and fibre structures.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

We’re searching for someone who:

  • Brings a Year 10 School Certificate or equivalent, however a Year 12 School Certificate will give you a great advantage.
  • Able to commence full time employment with Jetstar in Melbourne or Sydney in January 2027.
  • Has an ability to work a rotating roster across a 24/7 shift pattern, including night shift.
  • Is a Permanent Resident or Australian/NZ citizen at application.
  • Hold a valid drivers license by the time of commencement.

Experience needed

Work experience is desired, but most importantly we are seeking individuals who bring a genuine curiosity and interest to learn about all things aviation and how we work as team to ensure that our aircraft take to the skies safely.
