About the role

Under supervision of the Team Leader, the Youth Justice Officer (YJO) will be responsible for supervising young people in the community who are involved, or at risk of being involved in the youth justice system. The role includes management of day-to-day case coordination of young people on orders and referrals and providing advice and assessment reports to courts and releasing authorities.

As a Youth Justice Officer, you will:

  • Contribute to community safety by making a positive difference to the lives of young people who offend.
  • Work in the community with complex young people and their families to address their needs.
  • Use contemporary counselling and intervention techniques and strategies to achieve positive change in young people.
  • Meet and work with young people and their families regularly to build positive relationships, providing support, role modelling and guidance.
  • Provide culturally safe services for Aboriginal young people and their families, engaging with Aboriginal elders and community.

Being a Youth Justice Officer is a challenging role. It's about helping young people make positive changes that will reduce the likelihood of reoffending through services to divert young people away from the youth justice system.
