About the Role:

Location: Offshore / Vessel-Based (Australia)

Roster: 6 weeks on / 6 weeks off

Reporting to the ROV Offshore Manager, you will be responsible for the planning, execution, and quality assurance of subsea survey operations in support of ROV activities.

You will provide accurate, real-time positional data and survey deliverables, ensuring operational success and compliance with industry and company standards.

Key Responsibilities:

The ROV Pilot Technician is responsible and accountable for the following:

  • Treating safety and environmental compliance as a top priority.
  • Reporting any unsafe acts or failure to comply with regulations or company procedures to the ROV Offshore Manager.
  • Promoting safety and risk awareness through job safety analyses and toolbox talks.
  • Ensuring that all logbooks and records are kept according to IMCA and company standards.
  • Ensuring that all non-conformities, deficiencies, incidents, near misses and hazards are reported by all officers, crew members and special persons, including senior staff.
  • Responsible for the planning, execution, and quality assurance of subsea survey operations conducted in support of the ROV activities. The role ensures accurate acquisition, processing, and reporting of geospatial and sensor data to support mission objectives.
  • Plan and execute subsea survey scopes as defined by the mission tasking and as directed by the ROV Offshore Manager
  • Operate and monitor survey equipment such as USBL, LBL, INS, DVL, multibeam echosounders, and laser scanning systems.
  • Integrate survey systems with ROV navigation and control systems.
  • Provide real-time positional data and guidance to ROV pilots and offshore teams. Acquire high-quality survey data in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.
  • Perform onboard data processing, validation, and quality control.
  • Generate charts, reports, and deliverables (e.g., as-built drawings, inspection reports).
  • Maintain accurate logs of survey operations and system performance.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to survey sensors and software.
  • Ensure all survey systems are configured and interfaced correctly with vessel and ROV systems.
  • Liaise with ROV Supervisors, Offshore Managers, and Client Representatives to ensure survey requirements are met.
  • Provide clear communication of survey data, positional updates, and operational constraints.
  • Participate in daily briefings, toolbox talks, and operational planning meetings.
  • Ensuring that a high level of housekeeping is maintained within the work areas.
  • Participate in daily meetings onboard and regularly communicate with the ROV Supervisor onshore.
  • Complete Teekay Safety Observation Process (TSOP) as required by company procedures.

What You Bring

  • Degree or diploma in Hydrographic Surveying, Geomatics, Oceanography, or similar
  • Demonstrated experience in subsea survey operations within offshore environments
  • Strong working knowledge of USBL/LBL positioning systems and subsea navigation technologies
  • Proficiency in survey software such as QINSy, EIVA Navipac/Navisuite, or Sonardyne Fusion
  • Experience supporting ROV operations or subsea construction activities
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and data integrity
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work within multidisciplinary offshore teams

Requirements:

  • Current valid Passport
  • Ability to attain AMSA Medical
  • Ability to obtain and maintain AGSVA security clearance
