The Opportunity

The Boeing Defence Australia (BDA), Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) Maintenance and Logistics Support Services (MLSS) Contract for the CH-47F Chinook offers an exciting opportunity to work on a world-class heavy-lift helicopter platform. We are seeking a Structures / Mechanical Engineer to join the team, to support airframe structural integrity, mechanical systems engineering and continuing airworthiness activities across the product lifecycle.

The role may involve close collaboration with RSAF personnel, Boeing design and sustainment teams, and program stakeholders.

Why this is exciting

  • Provide engineering support to sustain and develop CH-47F airframe structures and mechanical systems under the MLSS contract.
  • Contribute across the product lifecycle: design, modification, testing, in-service support and continued airworthiness.
  • Work in a cross-functional environment on cutting-edge aviation platforms and sustainment practices.

As a Structures / Mechanical Engineer you will:

  • Develop and issue repair and modification instructions for integration onto the CH-47F fleet in accordance with the approved Engineering Management System and applicable regulatory/safety frameworks.
  • Perform structural studies (static strength, durability/fatigue) and mechanical systems assessments to determine airworthiness and integrity using classical techniques and industry-standard tools.
  • Investigate and disposition problem reports from maintenance, ground test and flight test activities.
  • Develop engineering documentation (instructions, manuals, procedures, risk assessments) to support operation, maintenance and certification activities.
  • Support development and delivery of modification kits in collaboration with design and maintenance teams.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering and sustainment processes.
  • Work toward gaining platform-specific engineering delegations and authorities.
  • Be an exemplar of BDA safety culture and Boeing behaviours and values.

To be considered for this role you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Aerospace, Mechanical, Structural or related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in aerospace design, modification or support activities (structures and/or mechanical systems).
  • Demonstrated experience with design, upgrade or repair of air vehicle structures or mechanical systems (e.g. landing gear, hydraulics, flight controls, rotor/drive systems).
  • Experience performing structural strength and fatigue/durability assessments.
  • Experience preparing engineering artefacts for regulated aviation environments (e.g. DASR, CASA, EASA, Part 21/Part M/Part 145 or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with engineering change processes, defect disposition and test problem report management.
  • Experience with 3D modelling/design tools and analysis tools is highly regarded.
  • Motivated problem-solver with strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Security and eligibility

  • Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet Defence security requirements.
  • You may require a Foreign Work Authorisation (FWA) as required by Department of Defence policies. Please refer to the Department of Defence website for current requirements.

Location

This role is based onsite at Swartz Barracks, Oakey with hybrid options available..

Please note, for a candidate with high experience and skills the possibility for remote work based in Brisbane (either City or Enoggera) is possible where operationally feasible.

What's on offer?

  • Work on a high-profile international sustainment program and contribute to the continued operation of CH-47F Chinook capability.
  • Attractive remuneration and annual bonus.
  • Flexible working arrangements including WFH options, compressed work weeks and part-time opportunities where operationally feasible.
  • Formal mentoring, on-the-job training and professional development.
  • Access to health, wellbeing and employee assistance programs; discounts for travel and insurance; paid study leave, parental and Defence leave; salary packaging options.
  • Opportunity to collaborate with Boeing's global engineering and sustainment community.
