Background
Anglicare Southern Queensland invites Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across southern Queensland for our First Nations Advisory Council.
The First Nations Advisory Council provides culturally informed, strategic advice to Anglicare’s Community Services Commission and Executive Leadership Team, and will bring together First Nations knowledge, lived experience and cultural authority to ensure Anglicare’s policies, programs and services reflect the aspirations and strengths of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The Advisory Council will have a maximum of 6 members and plays a key role in:
- Providing expert cultural advice on issues impacting First Nations people.
- Identifying advocacy opportunities and partnerships.
- Offering guidance on First Nations events, projects, policy and document review.
- Strengthening Anglicare’s cultural capability across the organisation.
Who we are seeking:
Anglicare is seeking expressions of interest from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with strong cultural knowledge, lived experience, and a commitment to improving outcomes for First Nations communities.
Cultural and Community Connection
- Demonstrated connection to their community through occupation, involvement with community groups, organisations, events and initiatives
- Strong connections to local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander communities in Anglicare’s area of operation
- Experience in community leadership or advocacy
- Demonstrated cultural insights, knowledge and lived experience relevant to their community
- Ability to contribute to the First Nations Advisory Council discussions and initiatives
- Commitment to cultural safety, equity and inclusion.
Professional Expertise
- Combined equivalent knowledge or experience in policy, governance or program design
- Expertise in aged care, youth, family support or relevant sectors
- Experience serving on boards, committees or advisory groups
- Experience working with or knowledge of the Anglican Church and/or Anglicare Southern Queensland
- Ability to attend four (4) meetings per year.
Cultural Authority
- One (1) position will be dedicated to a Traditional Custodian recognised by their nation to provide cultural authority in relation to their respective Country
Council Membership & Expectations
- Members are asked to commit to a fixed term of one (1) year. Membership will be reassessed annually.
- Members will be required to attend four (4) meetings per year.
- Proxy attendance will not be permitted.
Remuneration
The First Nations Advisory Council will meet four (4) times a year. Members will be offered an honorarium in recognition of their time, expertise and cultural knowledge and contributions to Anglicare.
Members will receive a honorarium payment of $500 per meeting, which is intended to cover meeting attendance and preparation time.
