The School:
MacKillop Catholic College, located in the growing community of Johnston in the Northern Territory, is committed to providing quality Catholic education for students in the Palmerston region. Established in 2012 and named in honour of Saint Mary MacKillop, the College embraces her charism of faith, service and social justice, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students and staff.
The Position:
The Acting Deputy Principal - Pastoral Care is a senior leadership position within a Catholic school. The role requires a person of faith and vision for Catholic education who models Catholic values and supports the mission of the College.
Working closely with the Principal, the Deputy Principal provides leadership across the school to support effective school operations, curriculum delivery, staff development, pastoral care including behaviour management expectations and the building of relationships within the school community.
This is a full-time leadership contract position from 13 July 2026 to 11 December 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
As Acting Deputy Principal - Pastoral Care, you will:
- Provide leadership in creating and sustaining a strong Catholic culture within the school community.
- Support the effective operation of the school, including deputising for the Principal as required.
- Lead and support curriculum planning, implementation and student assessment in line with the School Improvement Plan.
- Support staff development and formation programs across the school.
- Promote student wellbeing and positive staff culture through effective pastoral care practices.
- Build strong relationships with families, parish and the wider community.

Essential Criteria:
We are looking for someone who:
- Be a practising Catholic and an active member of a Catholic Eucharistic community, or be a person of faith committed to Catholic values and participation in Catholic worship.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to the mission, vision and Catholic ethos of Catholic Education NT.
- Demonstrate experience in school leadership and the capacity to lead curriculum, pastoral care and staff development within a contemporary school context.
- Demonstrate highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships across the school community.
- Hold, or be willing to undertake, postgraduate qualifications in Religious Education, Theology and/or Educational Leadership.
- Hold, or be eligible for, teacher registration in the Northern Territory and a current Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card).
