Your new role

As a Cloud Engineer you will be responsible for designing, implementing, optimising and maintaining cloud-based infrastructure and services, with a focus on Linux systems in the Business Technology Services (BTS) Division. This role will be embedded in the Transformation Program, working closely with development, operations, and security teams to ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of cloud environments embedded in core projects such as disaster recovery, monitoring, test data management and offshore access.

Role and responsibilities:

  • Work with cloud service providers to manage and deploy services securely.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in BTS to integrate cloud solutions seamlessly and serve as a key technical contact for cloud service providers in the Transformation Program.
  • Drive technical innovation and efficiency through the implementation of agreed cloud technologies aligned to Business Objectives.
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain scalable, reliable, and secure cloud infrastructure using Linux-based systems.
  • Provide design and development services for cloud environment and platforms, project build/support/design, troubleshooting, capacity management, systems integration, disaster recovery and business continuity processes.
  • Create and maintain automation scripts for system provisioning, configuration management, and deployment processes.
  • Design and Implement monitoring solutions on Splunk to track system performance and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Ensure cloud services are integrated with BTS operational monitoring systems and maintain reports on cloud performance, costs, capacity usage and capacity forecasts.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, procedures, and changes.

What you need to succeed

  • Proficiency in various Linux distributions such as Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu, and Debian.
  • Strong skills in scripting languages like Bash, Python, and Perl for automation and task management.
  • Knowledge of security best practices, including system hardening, firewalls, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
  • Familiarity with tools like Ansible, Puppet, and Chef for configuration management and automation.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, KVM) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud).
  • Database Management: Basic knowledge of database systems such as Exadata, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MariaDB1.
  • Proficiency with version control systems like Git for managing code and configurations.
  • Proficiency in configuring Splunk to ingest logs from cloud environments including configuration of Indexers, Search heads and any other relevant Infrastructure.
  • Experienced with enabling and supporting DR strategies in a cloud environment.

What you'll get in return

  • Initial 1 year contract + 2x 1 year extension.
  • $850 - $950 + Superannuation per day.
