At Kanda Foundation, we believe every child and young person deserves a safe place to belong. We provide holistic, community-based and in-home support for families and young people who are experiencing crisis, recovering from trauma, or navigating complex life challenges. Many of the children and families we support are engaged with DCJ or Corrections, and our work is focused on providing stability, healing and connection.

Responsibilities or duties

In this role, you will:

  • Provide face-to-face, trauma-informed support to vulnerable young people and families from diverse backgrounds
  • Support parents to strengthen parenting skills, promote family preservation, and assist with reunification after children have been in DCJ care
  • Build trusted mentoring relationships with young people, offering emotional support and guidance
  • Facilitate safe and supportive family time visits between children and parents
  • Implement individualised support plans and maintain accurate records and documentation

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Requirements:

  • A valid NSW Paid Working With Children Check and National Police Check (or willingness to obtain prior to commencement)
  • Consent to be added to the Residential Care Workers Register
  • Minimum availability of 25 hours per week
  • A valid Australian driver’s licence and reliable vehicle
  • Attained or working towards a relevant Bachelor's Degree, Diploma or Certificate IV (Community Services, Youth/Social Work, etc.)

Experience needed

  • Experience supporting children, young people and/or families
  • Experience in related fields (e.g. disability, mental health, aged care, childcare) will be highly regarded
