Youth After hours Diversionary Service (YADS) Community Outreach Worker

Part time | Hobart Region | Wed–Fri Afternoons/Evenings

CatholicCare Tasmania is seeking a compassionate Community Outreach Worker to join the expanding Youth After hours Diversionary Service (YADS). Working alongside Anglicare in a two worker model, you will provide trauma informed, early intervention support to young people in public settings across Hobart, Glenorchy, Bellerive and Bridgewater.

In this role, you will:

  • Engage young people safely in the community including demonstrating culturally appropriate and safe practices
  • Provide practical assistance (transport, essentials, supported referrals)
  • Support brief intervention, referral to needed supports, planning and risk assessment
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to program improvement
  • Participate in YADS on call

You bring:

  • Experience supporting people facing adversity
  • Strong communication skills and confidence in dynamic public settings
  • Well practiced selfcare strategies, resilience and confidence and comfortability in working with clients who may present with character and ‘spark’
  • Ability to work within trauma informed, safety first practice
  • Relevant qualification (or working toward) in Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, Allied Health with experience in engaging with young people
  • WWVP, Police Check, Driver Licence & First Aid

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver outreach based, trauma informed brief interventions with a safety first approach in public settings.
  • Demonstrated experience providing support to people experiencing distress and complex life challenges, including recognising and working with people’s intrinsic resourcefulness.
  • Demonstrated capability to facilitate assessment and planning, identify barriers and support needs, and make supported referrals to services and accommodation.
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills with service users, family/carers, Tas Police, colleagues, and other providers—including in public “hot spot” locations.
  • Proven ability to apply dynamic risk assessment and follow two worker safety protocols during community outreach; adherence to WHS policies to ensure safety of self and others.
