Your New Role

As a private markets valuation specialist, you will play a key role in the oversight and delivery of valuations across AustralianSuper’s growing unlisted investment portfolio. Working collaboratively within the Valuations team, you will support the accurate and timely valuation of infrastructure, private equity and private credit investments, providing high‑quality analysis and insight to inform decision‑making across the Fund.

You will engage closely with internal investment teams and external stakeholders, applying strong technical judgement, analytical capability and communication skills to support valuation governance, continuous improvement and evolving best practice.

Key duties include but are not limited to;

  • Reviewing cyclical independent valuations of internally managed unlisted assets, assessing assumptions, methodologies and valuation outcomes. This will oftentimes involve deep analysis to identify root causes of valuation movements and drivers.
  • Undertaking internal valuations for investments not externally valued to support timely and accurate reporting.
  • Managing valuation risk through robust documentation, including drafting valuation reports, papers and supporting memos.
  • Liaising with asset class, portfolio management and fund operations teams on valuation matters and outcomes.
  • Supporting the development, refinement and implementation of valuation control processes and documentation.
  • Engaging with internal and external stakeholders including the Valuation Committee, auditors and advisers to meet governance obligations.
  • Monitoring asset performance and market conditions to identify potential out‑of‑cycle valuation requirements.
  • Contributing to the evolution of valuation processes and providing coaching and support to junior team members.

What You’ll Need

  • Tertiary qualifications in Commerce or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience within a valuation team, institutional investor or corporate advisory environment.
  • Strong technical valuation skills, including experience reviewing reports, analysing data and forming sound valuation conclusions.
  • Experience valuing unlisted assets, particularly infrastructure or infrastructure‑adjacent investments.
  • Well‑developed written and verbal communication skills, with confidence presenting to senior stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholder relationships.
  • Postgraduate qualifications such as CA/CPA or CFA, advanced financial modelling capability and familiarity with market data platforms will be highly regarded.
