An opportunity to step up into management and in a growing Liability underwriting platform in a genuine leadership capacity, based in Sydney.

An established and well-capitalised underwriting agency is continuing to invest in its Liability division, creating an opportunity for an experienced Underwriting Team Leader to take ownership of a developing portfolio and lead a team of four underwriters. This is not a maintenance role. It is a position designed for someone who wants to influence direction, build capability and play a visible role in the next phase of growth.

The portfolio spans SME through to mid-market Liability risks, with a strong broker distribution network already in place. The business has built a reputation for being responsive, technically credible and commercially pragmatic, and is now looking to strengthen its leadership bench to support increased submission flow and broker demand. You will be responsible for mentoring and developing the team, maintaining underwriting discipline, and working closely with senior stakeholders to refine appetite and drive sustainable growth across the book.

From a market perspective, this role offers a step into a broader leadership remit without the constraints often seen in larger insurers. You will have the autonomy to make decisions, influence broker strategy and contribute to product and portfolio development. It will suit either an established Team Leader or a senior Liability underwriter ready to step up, particularly someone who enjoys balancing technical underwriting with people leadership and market engagement.

• Leadership of a four-person Liability underwriting team with responsibility for performance and development
• Ownership of underwriting strategy across SME and mid-market Liability risks, including broker engagement and portfolio growth
