Background information about the job or company (e.g., role context, company overview)
Energy Power Systems Australia (EPSA) is the authorised supplier of Cat® power systems in Australia, PNG, and the Solomon Islands. As a leading provider of sustainable energy solutions, EPSA provides new and used engines, generators, and hybrid energy systems for a broad range of industries. We also specialise in rental solutions for power generators, compressors, and temperature control systems.
We’re searching for a Senior Project Manager who thrives on complexity and delivers with precision. This is not your average project management role—you’ll provide strategic oversight and governance across a portfolio of major rental and large power projects, with a primary focus on one key, high‑risk and large-scale project of strategic importance to EPSA.
In addition to owning this flagship project, you’ll also support other projects where capacity allows—ranging from generator solutions through to the full construction of power stations. You’ll ensure standards are met, risks are managed, schedules are controlled, and outcomes are delivered, while guiding Project Managers and influencing stakeholders at every stage.
If you’re ready to take ownership of projects that power industries and communities, and you have the vision and resilience to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment, we want to hear from you.
Based in Mulgrave (VIC) with a hybrid working environment, you’ll be a key leader in our Solutions Group, shaping the future of power solutions across Australia.
If you’re ready to step into a senior role—or you haven’t had formal management experience yet but have the capability and drive—that’s fine too. We’re looking for someone who can bring expertise, confidence, and a solutions‑focused mindset to a dynamic environment.
Responsibilities or duties
- Take end‑to‑end accountability for a key, high‑risk, large-scale project, providing strong leadership, governance and decision‑making throughout the project lifecycle.
- Manage risk, quality, schedule, and progress across complex projects, ensuring delivery meets organisational standards and agreed scope.
- Provide oversight and governance for major rental and large power solutions, including engineering, commercial, contractual, and scheduling considerations.
- Support and contribute to additional projects where capacity allows, ensuring consistent standards and outcomes across the broader portfolio.
- Supervise and coach Project Managers, ensuring projects are delivered according to plan and providing guidance on complex issues.
- Champion EPSA’s safety‑first culture, driving ZERO Harm and TRIFR compliance across all projects.
- Ensure commercial outcomes by maintaining Tender Margin and managing contractual obligations during handover meetings.
- Allocate resources effectively, balancing competing priorities across the portfolio to meet delivery expectations.
- Drive continuous improvement, standardising processes and embedding best practices in project delivery.
- Act as a trusted advisor, providing expert input on engineering, commercial, risk, and scheduling‑related decisions.
- Represent EPSA with confidence, influencing internal and external stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- Proven experience delivering large, complex and high‑risk projects within engineering, energy, construction, or infrastructure environments.
- Demonstrated experience owning project schedules, including planning, sequencing, critical path analysis, and managing schedule risk across multiple stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of commercial and contractual frameworks, including tender processes, variations, and profitability management.
- Strategic oversight capability—you can see the big picture while still managing the detail across safety, quality, schedule, and financial outcomes.
- Supervisory experience, with the ability to guide and coach Project Managers through complex delivery challenges.
- Risk management mastery, with the ability to identify, assess, and mitigate technical, commercial, operational, and program risks.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, able to influence internal teams, external partners, and clients at all levels.
- Strong commercial acumen, including experience with contract negotiations and maintaining project margins.
- Analytical thinking and problem‑solving skills, using data and insights to support decision‑making and continuous improvement.
- A process‑driven mindset, with experience standardising and optimising project delivery frameworks.
- Clear and confident communication skills, both written and verbal, to articulate complex concepts and drive alignment.
- Familiarity with project management and scheduling tools and methodologies, with the ability to adapt them to evolving business needs.
Experience needed
The job description implies significant experience in project management, particularly with large, complex, and high-risk projects in relevant industries. Specific years are not stated but the title 'Senior Project Manager' suggests several years of experience.
