About the job

Optus is an Australian telecommunications company, delivering more than 11 million services to our customers every day across mobile, broadband, and digital solutions.

As Senior Director – Core Services & Network Exposure, you will play a role in shaping the direction, lifecycle management, and operational effectiveness of our Core Services platforms. You’ll support the service enablement platforms, ensuring they are secure, reliable, scalable, and aligned with our network modernisation journey.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the engineering and development of service enablement platforms including Messaging, Voicemail, Mobile Enablement platforms, Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) platforms, Network Exposure capabilities, and the Service Build & Delivery function.
  • Ensure these platforms are secure, reliable, scalable, and aligned with Optus' network modernisation strategy.
  • Partner closely with Fixed & Mobile Core, Network Engineering, OSS Platform Engineering, End-to-End Core Build & Optimisation, Product, and Digital teams to ensure end-to-end service performance.
  • Drive transformation and modernisation of platforms while maintaining service reliability.

What makes you perfect for the role?

  • Extensive experience in telecommunications core service platforms such as messaging, voicemail, mobile enablement, and service enablement (10+ years).
  • Strong understanding of mobile and fixed core network architectures and service delivery.
  • Proven experience driving platform modernisation including cloud-native architectures, APIs, and automation.
  • Experience managing complex vendor ecosystems and technology partnerships.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability with a focus on building high-performing engineering teams.
  • Critical thinking with the ability to translate network capabilities into business outcomes and service monetization opportunities.
  • Cooperative leadership approach with robust cross-departmental involvement among network, product, and digital groups.

The good stuff….

  • Competitive remuneration and colleague discounts. Make life easier (and more affordable) with $80 monthly credit and 25% off Optus products and outstanding shopping discounts with our retail partners.
  • Flexible working arrangements with opportunities to work three days in the office, two days remote or home.
  • Vibrant and collaborative office campus that includes cafes, convenience store, chill out zones, GP, post office, gym, and on-site childcare centre.
  • Competitive leave policies, including additional 'Connected’ days to focus on culture, family, health, community, or whatever’s important to you.
  • We support growing families with inclusive, carer-neutral paid Parental Leave of up to 16 weeks.
  • Direct your own development and build future-ready skills with Optus U’s industry-focused micro-credentials, developed with La Trobe and Macquarie Universities.
  • Build meaningful connections through colleague-led networks and diversity initiatives including Culture Connect, Elevate Women, Disability Network, and Express Yourself (LGBTQIA+).
  • Put your wellbeing first with free access to counselling and support services, 24/7 — in-person, by phone, SMS, or video.
  • Free Optus bus from Macquarie University Metro Station (every 6-8 minutes); morning and afternoon. Join us for an outstanding career opportunity!
