We are seeking an experienced Senior Financial Accountant to join a growing construction and property development group based in Sydney. This role is critical in supporting accurate financial reporting, project accounting, and compliance across multiple development entities and SPVs.
You will work closely with senior management, project teams, and external advisors, providing hands-on technical accounting support throughout the development lifecycle — from land acquisition through construction, completion, and settlement.
This role focuses on managing financial reporting, compliance, and project accounting within a construction or property development environment.
Financial Reporting & Compliance: Prepare financial statements, manage tax obligations (BAS, GST, PAYG, FBT), and ensure compliance with regulatory bodies while coordinating with external advisors.
Construction & Project Accounting: Oversee job costing, project profitability, revenue recognition, and track key elements like WIP, progress claims, and project margins.
Entity & Group Accounting: Handle finances across multiple entities (e.g. SPVs, trusts), including intercompany transactions and consolidations.
Systems & Process Improvement: Maintain and enhance financial systems, controls, and reporting tools, including accounting software and automation initiatives.
Stakeholder Support: Collaborate with internal teams and leadership, providing financial insights and analysis to support decision-making.
Key Requirements
- CPA or CA qualified (or near completion)
- 5+ years’ experience in financial accounting, with direct experience in construction or property development
- Strong understanding of:
- Construction cost accounting and WIP
- Revenue recognition and cost capitalisation
- Development feasibility and cash flow modelling
- Hands-on experience with Xero (highly regarded)
- Strong Excel skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment
