PRIMARY PURPOSE

Practicing and promoting safe, efficient and effective nursing care for people experiencing mental health problems that reflect current National practice standards for mental health, current standards of nursing practices and current Mid North Coast Local Health District policies and procedures. All nursing positions are expected to be able to work across all components of the mental health service including inpatient and community-based services.

RESPIRATOR USE

NSW Health workers may be required to use a respirator, as part of their appointment with NSW Health. Where a respirator is required for use, workers will be instructed in their safe use; including donning, doffing and fit checking. Staff may be required to complete fit testing to selected respirator/s to assess their facial fit/seal. At all times when a health worker is required to use a respirator, the health worker must not have any facial hair present. Processes are in place to support workers that need to keep facial hair due to religious observance requirements and/ or health conditions.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

Current Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

  • Assisting, supporting and guiding the education, clinical placement and development of Enrolled Nurses and fellow Registered Nurses.

  • Promoting evidence based practice and continuous quality improvement within the ward/unit/service.
  • Participating in health care planningnpractice and evaluation.
  • Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with patients, carers and other health care team members/colleagues regarding nursing care.
  • Practice in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia's professional standards, NSW Health Code of Conduct and CORE values.
  • Actively promotes and participates in patient safety and ongoing quality improvement programs. Engages in practices that promote the best possible health outcomes for patients/clients, and supports a culture of patient safety, clinical quality and innovation.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. Current Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  2. Demonstrated nursing skills, knowledge and ability relevant to area within the mental health service.
  3. Demonstrated clinical problem solving skills to maximise patient care
  4. Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  5. Ability to plan and coordinate patient care in a multidisciplinary team environment providing outcome based care.
  6. Participation in a seven day rotating roster including public holiday and night duty.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Other Duties: Perform other duties as directed consistent with Award classification.
