Summary:
The Mechanical Designer will provide drafting and engineering services for the design and manufacturing of components used in the overhaul process and new capital equipment design, and capturing of any modifications made to equipment.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Ensure work is conducted in compliance with the HBT Safety and Health Management Plan and the Quality Management System
- Report any hazards or incidents and near misses involving yourself or others.
- Adherence to policies, procedures and processes for design, drafting and engineering
- Inspect and measure machinery and components
- Produce technical drafts and designs to assist in streamlining the fabrication process and enhance quality outcomes
- Seek opportunities to produce designs that lead to labour efficiencies during the overhaul and improved performance of components
- Liaise with Clients to clarify and verify specific requirement
- Liaise with workshop staff, key suppliers and sub-contractors about design
- Understanding of requirements around manufacturing process
- Assist with developing drafts of new ideas and products
- Liaise with project coordinators/managers and customers to seek understanding of drafting, design requirements
- Assist with strategic engineering improvements to new and existing equipment

Qualifications:
- Degree/Advanced Diploma in a Mechanical Engineering discipline.
- Three years post graduate heavy mechanical engineering experience, preferably within the mining industry.
- High level computer aptitude including CAD 2D drawing / 3D modelling. HBT use creo 3d modelling software.
- Understanding of underground coal mining operations particularly the longwall systems
Previous Knowledge & Experience:
- A strong focus on safety.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of industrial hydraulic systems.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work in with other disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully work autonomously to achieve business objectives.
- A positive attitude with a can-do mantra.
- Strong analytical skills to make informed decisions/recommendations.
- Strong technical drafting and writing skills.
