Make a meaningful difference with us
We’re looking for someone who wants to make the world a little better through small moments that leave big impacts. To build meaningful relationships and make a difference in the lives of others.
UnitingCare is in the midst of an exciting transformation—reshaping how we lead, operate and deliver impact across Queensland. We’re building a more unified, commercially strong and future-focused organisation, and every role has a hand in shaping what comes next.
As our Insurance Specialist, you’ll play a key part in strengthening how we manage claims, with a particular focus on medical malpractice and provide insights that support confident decision-making. Your expertise will help drive smarter, more innovative insurance practices across Aged Care and Community, Family and Disability, and Hospitals—strengthening vital services and contributing to a mission-driven organisation on the rise.
Please note, this position is Full Time. Flexibility is important to us, and we know it is to you, too - this role supports hybrid working by agreement.
Your part in our UnitingCare team:
- Handle complex, high-value medical malpractice claims, interpreting legal opinions and representing UnitingCare in meetings, mediations and hearings.
- Manage day-to-day insurance activities, including insurer notifications, inbox management, and operational support across all insurance classes.
- Provide expert advice on organisational insurance risks, including reviewing and advising on contractual insurance requirements.
- Coordinate significant event claims, ensuring accurate data management, stakeholder engagement and optimal financial outcomes.
- Maintain claims records and reporting, provide updates to internal stakeholders, and identify opportunities for process improvement, including third-party recoveries.
- Support annual insurance renewals by analysing data and claims trends and preparing materials for insurer presentations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal leaders and external partners including brokers, insurers, legal counsel and the Queensland Synod Insurance Team.
What makes a difference for us?
- Confidence to satisfy the relevant probity checks required by legislation or policies. This may include a Nationally Coordinated Police Check, Right to Work in Australia
- Extensive personal injury and/or medical malpractice claims management experience, with at least 5 years in the insurance industry
- Strong skills in using claims management systems and interpreting insurance policy wordings
- Proven ability to build effective business relationships and operate in line with relevant state legislation
- Desirable: medical industry knowledge, Power BI reporting capability, understanding of risk management practices, and relevant insurance qualifications (Cert IV or Diploma)
What makes a difference for you?
- The opportunity to be part of the second-largest Queensland employer who has been leading by example for more than 100 years. Joining our team, you’ll be welcomed as part of the UnitingCare family.
