Anglicare's Financial Wellbeing program (FinWell) represents a significant evolution in how we support people experiencing financial hardship. Moving beyond one‑off emergency relief, FinWell provides integrated, relationship‑based financial wellbeing support that helps people build long‑term stability, confidence and resilience.

We are seeking a qualified Financial Counsellor to join our multidisciplinary FinWell team, delivering specialists, intensive financial counselling to individuals and families experiencing debt and financial stress.

About the Role

As a Financial Counsellor, you will provide high‑quality, person‑centered financial counselling services in line with professional standards. Working collaboratively with Financial Capability Caseworkers, NILS, Community Pantry teams and community partners, you will help deliver a connected and empowering client experience.

  • Provide professional financial counselling services
  • Support clients experiencing debt through advocacy, negotiation and education
  • Develop achievable, client‑led financial plans
  • Maintain a full client caseload in line with funding requirements
  • Collaborate with internal and external services to support holistic outcomes
  • Participate in outreach, education and community engagement activities
  • Maintain accurate client records and contribute to reporting and quality improvement

About You

  • Diploma of Financial Counselling
  • Accreditation with FCAN desirable (Associate membership would be considered)
  • At least two years' experience working as a Financial Counsellor
  • Strong knowledge of the Australian financial system, particularly credit and debt
  • Ability to connect and communicate effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds and experience, including CALD, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Genuine compassion for people experiencing financial hardship, ability to understand the challenges they face and respond to each person's unique story
  • Excellent advocacy, negotiation and communication skills
  • Strong computer skills - ability to use MS-Office and client database systems (CRM)
  • Willingness to work flexibly across office and community settings
  • Valid Working with Children Check for paid employment & National Criminal History Check
  • Current NSW Driver License required
