About the role:

ETRM-IT (Energy Trading Risk Management) is responsible for the ongoing development of custom-built software that allows Origin's asset portfolio to make prompt, correct and robust interactions with the energy markets in which Origin participates. As AI reshapes how energy markets operate, this team is at the forefront — embedding intelligent capabilities into the systems that power Australia's energy future.

This role will join a high performing team of 2-3 squads consisting of developers, testers, business analysts and a Delivery Manager to provide ongoing support and maintenance.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end technical solutions — design, development, testing, and deployment — across cloud and on-prem ETRM IT systems.
  • Deliver expert 2nd and 3rd level application support, driving automation and AI-assisted tooling to reduce manual processes and improve reliability.
  • Design and implement advanced enhancements that modernise both on-premise and cloud-based platforms, including integration of AI/ML capabilities where they deliver business value.
  • Explore and champion AI tools — including large language models, predictive analytics, and intelligent automation — to enhance trading operations and decision support.
  • Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders, communicating approaches and progress clearly to ensure alignment and impact.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to optimise systems, streamline processes, and enhance documentation and operational practices.

Skills & Requirements

  • Strong C# and .NET development experience, with deep understanding of software design patterns and modern engineering methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience with cloud platforms (AWS or Azure), including serverless technologies such as Lambda.
  • Advanced SQL skills and experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including database design and optimisation.
  • Practical experience applying AI/ML concepts — whether through LLM integration, predictive modelling, or intelligent automation — is highly regarded.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Claude) to accelerate delivery and improve code quality.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to design robust, scalable, and maintainable solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills and a self-motivated, collaborative approach, with willingness to participate in an after-hours support roster.

So, why join us?

  • Discounted Origin products benefits for employees, including Electrical, Gas and Internet offers!
  • 21 weeks of paid parental leave for primary carers with flexible return options.
  • Competitive salary + annual performance bonus + performance based reviews
  • Origin 360 Electric Vehicles (EV) employee subscription offers a fantastic range of EVs, with flexible month-to-month plans and no lock-in contract.
  • Free and confidential counselling for employees and family members.
  • A great high energy team, that encourages interesting, rewarding, and engaging work!
