About the position

We are seeking applications for an Employment Mentor to provide individualised support, assistance and guidance to job seekers from a CALD background who are addressing/overcoming barriers to employment. If successful, you will ensure that they gain suitable employment opportunities within an appropriate time frame, and will negotiate, monitor and review the delivery of employment support services for clients. This involves the case management of a caseload of job seekers, reverse marketing candidates, job search training and supporting employers as they take on candidates who are from a CALD background.

  • Provide individualised support, assistance and guidance to job seekers from a CALD background who are addressing/overcoming barriers to employment.
  • Ensure job seekers gain suitable employment opportunities within an appropriate time frame.
  • Negotiate, monitor and review the delivery of employment support services for clients.
  • Case management of a caseload of job seekers.
  • Reverse marketing candidates.
  • Job search training.
  • Support employers as they take on candidates who are from a CALD background.
  • Case management or client liaison experience.
  • Working with people who are Refugees and Asylum Seekers or are from a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) background.
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by CALD, refugee, and asylum seeker cohorts.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of employment support services for CALD, refugee, and asylum seeker cohorts.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current labour market trends.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide comprehensive job seeker assessment.
  • Ability to identify barriers to employment.
  • Ability to prepare individual career or job plans.
  • Proven ability to motivate clients.
  • Ability to advocate and negotiate on behalf of clients.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to implement innovative job seeker focused solutions to gain employment.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Well developed computer skills.
  • Demonstrated positive values of integrity, reliability, teamwork and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the quality and continuous improvement principles.
  • Ability to speak a second language will be highly regarded.
  • Some case management or client liaison experience, including working with people who are Refugees and Asylum Seekers or are from a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) background, and an understanding of the challenges they may face
  • A current valid Driver Licence will be required for this role
  • A current Working With Children Check (Employee)
  • A working knowledge and understanding of employment support services, for clients from a CALD background or refugee and asylum seeker cohorts, and the challenges they face
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current labour market trends
  • Demonstrated record of success in placement of job seekers into employment or experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrated ability to provide comprehensive job seeker assessment, identifying barriers to employment and preparing individual career or job plans
  • Proven ability to motivate clients, and advocate and negotiate on their behalf
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills to implement innovative job seeker focused solutions to gain employment
  • Strong time management, organisational and well developed computer skills
  • Demonstrated positive values of integrity, reliability, teamwork and professionalism consistent with the AMES Vision and demonstrated commitment to the quality and continuous improvement principles
