As the Data Business Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in delivering strategic and innovative Jetstar projects. The Data BA will perform business analysis activities across the Jetstar Airways’ data platforms to understand the landscape, liaise with stakeholders, and prepare requirements for the project squad to ensure successful delivery.

Responsibilities or duties

  • Lead and facilitate business requirements gathering sessions to deeply understand and capture complex business challenges and needs.
  • Define project and task scope, creating the necessary artefacts and setting realistic timelines and expectations in collaboration with the team.
  • Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, demonstrating excellent business engagement and communication skills.
  • Develop proof-of-concept BI models and prototypes to validate solution feasibility and support decision-making.
  • Apply strong SQL capabilities to perform data analysis, supported by foundational knowledge of BI technologies and tools.
  • Conduct detailed research and analysis, translating business requirements into clear epics, user stories, and well-defined acceptance criteria.
  • Establish and enhance tools, templates, and processes to enable high-quality support for BI Analysts across Jetstar.
  • Act as the initial point of accountability for User Acceptance Testing (UAT), ensuring solutions meet requirements before business validation.
  • Partner closely with stakeholders to elicit and document business objectives, processes, scope, and use cases that inform product development.
  • Actively contribute to backlog prioritisation and product planning to ensure alignment with business value and strategic goals.
  • Lead the identification, acquisition, and profiling of new data sources to support evolving business needs.
  • Collaborate as a key member of the Agile delivery team, supporting technical and architectural outcomes, coordinating acceptance testing, and contributing to release management activities.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related Information Technology discipline (preferred)
  • Certification or comparable experience in an Agile environment (Scrum/Lean)
  • Advanced knowledge and demonstrable experience with best practice BI content delivery using visualization technologies and preferably Cloud Services technologies in the Amazon Web Services (EMR, Spark, Redshift, S3 etc.)
  • Exposure to structured and unstructured data technologies
  • Scripting skills in T-SQL, C# and preferably Python
  • Experience in data testing, reference data management and data quality processes
  • Experience working in an outsourced/offshore BI development environment
  • Applied understanding of Agile methodologies and ways of working.

Experience needed

12 Month initial Fixed-Term Contract role based at Jetstar HQ in Melbourne, with flexible hybrid working and Travel Benefit from Day one!
