Background information about the job or company (e.g., role context, company overview)

headspace Mount Isa is seeking a dynamic, creative and community‑minded Community & Youth Engagement Officer to be the friendly face of our centre across the region. This is your chance to work with young people aged 12–25, build strong community partnerships, and help make mental health support accessible, visible, and welcoming.

Why headspace Mount Isa?

headspace Mount Isa is a vibrant, youth‑friendly hub supporting young people’s mental health, physical health, work/study pathways and alcohol/drug services.

Led by Gidgee Healing, an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service, we’re deeply committed to culturally safe, holistic care that empowers young people and strengthens our community.

Responsibilities or duties

As our Community & Youth Engagement Officer, you will:

  • Bring headspace into the community — promoting services at schools, events, GP clinics, youth organisations and more.
  • Lead youth voice — recruit, coordinate and support our Youth Reference Group, ensuring young people guide the work we do.
  • Create meaningful engagement — design campaigns, organise events, deliver workshops, and build strong relationships with our local networks.
  • Be our digital presence — help maintain our website and social media content to keep young people connected and informed.
  • Champion early intervention — increase awareness around mental health, help-seeking behaviours, and positive youth wellbeing.
  • Represent headspace proudly — as the welcoming, knowledgeable external face of the centre.

This role includes some after-hours and weekend work — because young people’s lives don’t only happen 9–5!

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Qualifications in youth work, community services, health, counselling, leadership or similar

  • A collaborative, positive and culturally respectful approach
  • Understanding of Mount Isa’s youth/health sector (highly desirable)

Practical Requirements

  • Ability to obtain/hold a Blue Card
  • Police Check (no serious court/criminal history)
  • Willingness to travel to remote areas, including overnight trips
  • Comfortable travelling by road and small aircraft
