About the role
The Communication Skills Specialist supports GP registrars who require additional language and communication assistance in patient consultations, exam preparation, and professional interactions within the Australian general practice context. Working within the RACGP GP Training program, the role delivers individualised, evidence‑based support using adult learning principles to strengthen communication skills, confidence, and reflective practice. The position collaborates with medical educators, and training stakeholders to support registrar development and progression. Central to the role is providing culturally safe, patient‑centred communication support in a respectful and non‑judgemental learning environment.
As our Communication Skills Specialist, you'll also:
- Assess registrars’ language and communication needs and develop tailored learning plans
- Deliver individual communication support sessions (online)
- Monitor progress through structured reporting and provide feedback to registrars and stakeholders
- Support registrar exam readiness by strengthening language, consultation, and question‑interpretation skills.
Skills and experience
- TESOL qualification and experience teaching English as an additional language.
- Experience in delivering training and assessment and strong knowledge of contemporary adult learning techniques.
- Exceptional verbal and written communications skills and experience working with people across multiple cultures.
- Familiarity with exam preparation and CALD support strategies.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience delivering effective teaching through video conferencing platforms
