About your next role

As the Category Buyer, you will play a critical role in optimizing supply chains and trading terms to ensure essential goods reach remote communities at the best possible value.

Responsibilities or duties

  • Manage and negotiate supplier and contractor relationships to optimize costs and trading terms
  • Drive value through strategic sourcing, value engineering, and effective risk management
  • Ensure category price integrity and validate pricing against market competition
  • Review and manage retail contracts and service providers to ensure all terms are met
  • Interpret sales reports and provide guidance to improve figures and customer engagement
  • Track inventory movement and recommend promotions, sales, or price changes
  • Collaborate with Area Managers and the Pricing Department on store-specific ranging and new business ideas
  • Travel to remote store locations via light aircraft or 4WD to review ranges and assist field teams

Qualifications or requirements

You are a commercially minded professional with strong negotiation skills and the ability to adapt your communication style to a diverse range of stakeholders.

Experience needed

  • At least three years of experience in a retail buying or similar procurement role
  • Proven expertise in contract management and high-level negotiation
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to solve problems using data
  • Intermediate proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate technical information to people of various language and ethnic backgrounds
  • The ability to remain calm and effective when working under pressure
  • Remote retail or logistics management experience is highly desirable

Mandatory Requirements

Unrestricted NT driver’s license (or the ability to obtain one)

Ability to travel to remote communities, which may involve small light aircraft with strict weight safety limits (140kg)
