Background information about the job or company (e.g., role context, company overview)

St Vincent's has been a leader in Australia's health and aged care landscape for more than 165 years. Since our founders, the Sisters of Charity, opened our first hospital in 1857, our services and nearly 30,000 people have been behind some of Australia's most important medical breakthroughs. We are a microcosm of Australia's health and aged care system and are uniquely positioned to lead and respond to our rapidly changing environment.

We are looking for a special kind of person - a St Vincent's kind of person. Someone who puts excellence, compassion, connection and caring for other people at the heart of everything they do.

Are you a creative leader with a passion for how the arts can transform healthcare? Reporting to the National Director of Formation & Purpose, the Arts in Health Lead will curate welcoming spaces that support access to services for the under-served and work with our mission teams to use art as a resource for staff formation. This is your chance to move beyond traditional gallery walls and use art to support the healing and wellbeing of patients, residents, and staff.

Based in Brisbane, this is a permanent part-time opportunity working 22.5 hours per week.

Responsibilities or duties

  • Curate Healing Spaces: Design and manage art exhibition spaces and galleries to create environments of comfort and hospitality for patients and residents.
  • Animate the Mission: Collaborate with Formation & Purpose Leads to integrate art collections into staff development and the mission and purpose of the organisation.
  • Manage the Collection: Oversee the documentation, valuation, and physical care of extensive art collections in line with professional standards.
  • Collaborate with Creative Community: Work with local artists, including First Nations people to bring their talents to life in spaces where patients and residents receive care.
  • Research & Impact: Support and engage in research and evaluation that investigates the impact of the arts in health and aged care settings.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

  • Proven experience in art collection management systems and the professional handling of works of art.
  • A high level of sound aesthetic judgment and knowledge of the current art market.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build networks with artists, donors, and community partners.
  • A deep commitment to the philosophy and values of St Vincent's and Mary Aikenhead Ministries.
  • Tertiary qualifications relevant to the Arts industry and significant professional experience.
